Everything you need to know about living in the Hans-Sommer-Straße dormitory!
Dormitory ABC
- Administrator: responsible for all matters concerning the tenancy agreement.
- Airing: 3 times a day for a few minutes with the window wide open
- Bell signage: The bell system works without a name; the room numbers are noted, as is the case with the letterbox system
- Bicycle parking: available in front of the house
- Broadcasting fees: more information at www.rundfunkbeitrag.de
- Confirmation of housing provider: see Residents' Registration Office
- Cooker top cleaning: Please clean the induction hob plates properly after use. Please buy induction-compatible pots and pans, otherwise the cooker will not work
- Damage: see report of defect
- Deficiency report: click here to report deficiencies
- Deposit refund: approx. 6 weeks after the end of the tenancy agreement.
- Dormitory support: responsible for moving in and out, handing over keys and everything to do with life in the hall of residence
- Duration of residence: is currently limited to a maximum of 5 years.
- Emergency exits/escape routes: It is essential to keep escape routes (all corridors) clear! Please observe the signs. There are escape doors with so-called door guards at the end of the corridor on each floor. Only open these in an emergency, as an alarm is triggered at the same time!
- Energy costs: Switch off the lights when leaving the rooms. Turn off the heating when the windows are open
- Enrolment certificate: Please present the valid certificate of enrolment to the clerk at the beginning of each semester. This can be uploaded via the portal.
- Entitlement to live: every student who is enrolled at the universities in our area of responsibility is entitled to live there
- Fire alarm: The escape and rescue routes have a fire alarm system that is directly connected to the fire brigade. The rooms are equipped with single-battery smoke detectors and are not connected to the fire brigade. In the event of an alarm, leave the building immediately via the marked escape and rescue routes. Tampering with the fire alarm system and single-battery smoke alarms is prohibited. Maintenance is carried out by the Hans Scholz company.

- Furniture: The existing furniture may not be moved out.

- HBK-Card: see student ID card
- Heating/thermostat: Heating is turned down at night between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- House rules: Please observe the house rules in the hall of residence. You can find them in the terms and conditions (in the download area).
- Internet: You will receive information about internet access with your tenancy agreement and when you move in. You can find the user agreement in the download area.
- Letterbox (labelling): Our letterbox system operates without a name. As with the bell system, only the room numbers (in short form, e.g. 1.202 or 2.305) are noted. Please do not stick any names on the letterboxes! A current list of tenants is posted for the postmen
- Liability insurance: is included in the rental contract (more information in the download area)
- Lost keys: during office hours please contact the dormitory support, afterwards the locksmith (for a fee/information can be found in the showcases)
- Mail (delivery): There is a letterbox for each flat. Please be sure to include the room number (in short form, e.g. 1.202 or 2.305) in the address!
- Mensa-Card: see student ID card
- Mobile phone number: Please give the dormitory support your current German or European mobile phone number
- Moving: Moving or changing rooms is possible for a fee. If you wish to move within the dormitories, please apply again and contact the responsible clerk. You can also submit an exchange application via the portal.
- Move out: 14 days before moving out make appointment with dormitory support
- Notice of termination: In the case of a semester tenancy agreement, notice of termination is possible with two months' notice to the end of the semester (see the tenancy agreement for more information).
- Online damage report: see defect report
- Pets: are not allowed in the hall of residence
- Power supply: 230 V
- Pre-acceptance: Within 3 days after handing in your notice, you must arrange an appointment with the dormitory support for the pre-acceptance. The current condition of the room will be recorded for the purpose of possible renovation after moving out
- Quiet times: can be found in the house rules (for more information see house rules)
- Relocation: Relocation or exchange is possible for a fee of 25 €. If you wish to move within the halls of residence, please submit a new application and contact the person in charge. You can also apply for an exchange via the portal
- Residence: see Residents' Registration Office
- Residents' registration office/civic office: Register within 14 days after moving in with the landlord's confirmation, which you will get from the dormitory support when you move in.
- Room exchange: see Moving house
- Room temperature: Please ensure that the room is at a constant temperature. Do not let the room cool down for a longer period of time
- Rubbish/Separation: Please separate rubbish and dispose of it properly on a regular basis. Rubbish bins are available in the fenced-in rubbish area (on the right) at the hall of residence. Bins are available for the following types of waste
Residual waste = grey
Plastic waste = yellow
Paper/cardboard = blue
What belongs in which bin?
Public containers for glass and cardboard/paper are available near the hall of residence. - Security: close doors and windows when leaving your room/flat
- Shower/silicone: wipe the shower dry after each use to prevent mould
- Smoking: is prohibited in all corridors!
- Smoke detector: see fire detector
- Storerooms: not available
- Student card: The electronic student card can also be used as a library card and canteen card. Further information on the TU-Card and HBK-Card
- Subletting: is possible under certain conditions. You can obtain the subletting contract from the responsible administrator
- Tableware: NOT included. All tenants are responsible for their own dishes
- TV: A DVBC receiver or a DVBC-compatible TV set is required.
- Ventilation in the bathroom: The air inlet and outlet openings must not be closed!
- Washing machine/dryer: are available on the first floor on the left in the laundry room and can be used with the wewash app for a fee. You will receive all the necessary information when you move in, you will find it on the machines and you add the detergent yourself. Please do NOT dry laundry in your room, in the flat or in the hallway, please use the dryers.
