FAQs about the Mensa Check-In

26.11.2021
Hier findet ihr alle Antworten zur App und zum Check-In

Here you can find all the answers about the app and check-in.

What's going on?
The dining halls of Mensa 1 and 9bar, Mensa 2 (from 15.11.), Mensa Clausthal (from 16.11.), Mensa Lüneburg and Uni-Mensa Hildesheim are open for university members with 2G status. This means that if you are vaccinated or have recovered, you can eat together with your friends at the table again.

In which Mensas is 2G (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only) valid?
In Mensa 1 and 9bar in Braunschweig, in the Uni-Mensa in Hildesheim and the Mensa Lüneburg, 2G applies in the entire building. In Mensa 2 and Mensa Clausthal only in the dining hall.

Will the 2G-Mensas (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only) still serve food to go?
In Mensa 1 and 9bar in Braunschweig, the Uni-Mensa Hildesheim and Mensa Lüneburg you also have to fulfil 2G, register and check in if you only pick up your food to go. In Mensa 2 and Mensa Clausthal, all university members can pick up their food to go - even without registering.

Do all guests have to register?
Yes. However, there are two groups of people who are granted access even if they do not fulfill 2G. One is persons who are not allowed to be vaccinated (med. contraindication, participation in clinical trials).
These must register in the app with a negative PoC antigen test no older than 24 hours or a negative PCR test no older than 48 hours. Check-in is done via a special QR code that is available to those who control entry. In addition, a medical certificate must be presented.

The second group is children under the age of 12 who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Children and teenagers may in general only enter the refectory if accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children under 12 years of age do not need a test or registration, adolescents 12 years of age and older may only enter the Mensa if vaccinated/recovered and checked in. Additional regulations at the individual universities:

  • Uni Hildesheim: Parents are asked to have their children tested beforehand
  • Leuphana: From the age of 4 there is a self-testing recommendation

The same rules apply to underage students as to students of full age.

In Braunschweig, access to university buildings is only permitted for members (employees and students) of the TU Braunschweig. This also applies to the Mensa.

In addition, guests of Mensa 2 and Mensa Clausthal who only pick up their food to go do not have to register.

Is the food served on proper plates again?
In Mensa 1, Uni-Mensa Hildesheim and Mensa Lüneburg there are real dishes again - but to-go containers are also still available. In Mensa 2 and Mensa Clausthal, food will continue to be served in to-go containers only.

What are the advantages of 2G (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only)?
"2G" means you can connect and meet with your friends and fellow students again with a high level of security. 2G (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only) offers the highest level of protection for guests and staff. Waiting times at the servery will be shorter because guests can move around freely again. We can expand the food offer, and eating on site saves on to-go packaging!

I have not been vaccinated. Can't I eat in the dining hall now?
That is correct. Exception: if you are not allowed to be vaccinated (med. contraindication, participation in clinical studies). See also: "Do all guests have to register?"
For guests who do not meet 2G (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only), there is an alternative meal offer at all locations: In Braunschweig, these are Mensa 2, the Kantina Kreativa at the HBK and the food truck at the NFF. In Lüneburg there are food trucks and in Hildesheim the Bistro Lübecker Straße is open and there is also a food truck on the road.

Why do I have to register beforehand?
Because we have to check the 2G status (access for vaccinated or recovered guests only) and the Niedersächsische Coronaverordnung (Lower Saxony Corona Ordinance) prescribes contact data registration in §6.

Where do I register?
https://checkin.stw-on.de

How does registration work?
Go to https://checkin.stw-on.de in your smartphone's browser. There you scan the QR code of your vaccination or recovery certificate. Alternatively, you can upload a screenshot of the QR code from the Luca app or Corona warning app. Unfortunately, the CovPass app does not allow screenshots, but it is possible to export the QR code as a PDF. The app will guide you through the individual steps. It's best to do this at home. You only have to do this step once on your smartphone.

How does the check-in work?
There is a QR code posted in front of the Mensa entrance. You scan it with a QR code scanner, your camera app or the check-in app. To do this, you need to have registered on the same smartphone beforehand. A confirmation will appear on your screen, which you show at the Mensa entrance. You have to complete this step every time you visit the refectory.

Do I have to download the app?
No, the app is web-based.

What do I need to register?
An internet-enabled smartphone with a QR code scanner and your EU vaccination or recovery certificate (paper or screenshot).

Do I have to register every time?
No. You only need to verify your vaccination or recovery certificate once. However, you must scan the QR code in front of the cafeteria before each visit to check in.
It may happen that you have to register again - this may be due to the fact that your browser has deleted cookies in the meantime. You can adjust this in your browser settings.

I don't have a smartphone.
To register, visit https://checkin.stw-on.de on a PC. There you verify your vaccination or recovery certificate by either uploading it as a screenshot or file or by holding the QR code in the webcam to scan it. Then, just like in the app, enter your contact information. After that, you can print the check-in code with the button "Print check-in code". Show this printed QR code to the staff at the Mensa entrance, who will scan it and check you in. The paper printout is only valid with a photo ID!

What do I need to get into the Mensa?
The confirmation screen of the check-in app, ID card or passport for random checks.

My camera is broken. or
I can't scan the QR code for check-in.
After registering, a window will appear in the app that would normally allow you to scan the QR code for check-in. Directly below you will find a QR code. If scanning does not work, show this QR code to the staff at the entrance. They can then check you in with it.

Can I also check in at the Mensa with Luca, Corona warning app or CovPass app?
No, you can't. However, you can use a screenshot of your QR code from the Luca or Corona Warning app to register with our app. Unfortunately, the CovPass app does not allow screenshots, but it is possible to export the QR code as a PDF.

What happens with my data?
Your contact details (name, address, phone number) are stored on the servers of the Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen every time you check in. They are transmitted to the server in transport-encrypted form, stored there in encrypted form and deleted after three weeks. The key to access the data is not stored on the server, so that even in the event of a hacker attack, the data is safe.
The digital vaccination or recovery certificate is verified but never stored (so you only have to upload it once). The verification process is the same as the control scan when you have to show your vaccination certificate in one of the usual apps elsewhere. To avoid having to re-enter your contact details each time, they are stored locally on your device. You can delete them on the app's homepage.

Do I have to log out after visiting the cafeteria?
No. There is no checkout. In case of infection, the health department decides from which period we have to provide the data.
